Confirmed Badlands items: FNO night desert camo, police and OBR uniforms, tanker helmets, and face wraps that now double as survival gear.
DayZ Badlands Items: New Clothing, Gear and What Each Piece Does
As of the Badlands pre-launch (October 2026), the confirmed DayZ Badlands items break down into four groups: a regional civilian wardrobe (Kameez tunics, Shalwar pants, sandals, dust goggles, keffiyehs, turbans, pakol hats), three regional uniforms (short-sleeved police shirt, OBR field uniform, FNO night desert camo jacket), military pieces that already shipped in the 1.29 Road to Badlands update (tanker helmets, military caps, desert-camo plate carrier and combat backpack), and protective accessories that stopped being cosmetic. Bohemia Interactive's own words on the last group: glasses, goggles, shemaghs, dust masks and face wraps "will be functional and essential" on Nasdara.
- Direct sunlight now hits character stats, so covering your body is a survival action, not a look.
- Head and face coverings protect your eyes and airways from dust; hydration and shade do the rest.
- Heavier, better-insulated clothing still tends to carry more inventory space — light desert gear costs you slots.
- Spawn points, slot counts and insulation values are not published; they arrive with the map at launch on October 15, 2026.
Why face coverings became survival gear
Nasdara is the hottest official map Bohemia has made, and the studio treats heat as a system rather than scenery: direct sunlight has an impact on character stats, and players are told to keep their body properly covered or stay in the shade instead of running out into open sun. The map also has very little standing water, and regular wells are mostly wrecked by the war, so you cannot out-run the environment by chugging from every pond you pass.
That is the context for the biggest wardrobe shift in Badlands. In Chernarus and Livonia, a shemagh or a pair of goggles is a cosmetic or a roleplay prop. On Nasdara, official messaging says character cosmetics such as glasses, goggles, shemaghs, dust masks and face wraps will be functional and essential, with keeping your eyes clear and your airways protected treated as being just as important as staying hydrated or avoiding the sun. A dust mask on this map is closer to a raincoat in Sakhal — the item exists because the biome punishes you for ignoring it.

The confirmed regional clothing pool
The Week 67 dev blog listed the climate-driven additions under "New Clothing to Combat the Environment". Every entry below comes from that announced list, not a datamined table — Bohemia has not published slot counts, insulation numbers or spawn weights.
| Item | What was announced | Why it matters in Nasdara |
|---|---|---|
| Kameez tunic (lighter shirt) | Lighter shirts, with "a huge range" of variants | Light layers suit the heat but give up the storage of heavy jackets |
| Shalwar pants | Looser pants, part of the regional set | Breathable coverage for exposed travel |
| Vests | Listed alongside the lighter garments | Layering piece without full-sleeve heat |
| Sandals | Listed as part of the new pool | Lightest footwear option, poor protection by definition |
| Dust goggles | Protective eyewear | Eye protection against dust, called out as functional |
| Keffiyehs, turbans, pakol hats | "Several forms of headwear and face coverings" | Sun and dust cover for the head and face |
The art team called the work research-driven: how these garments are cut, wrapped, layered and patterned, in materials that read as practical and worn rather than clean or decorative, so the clothing still looks like something survivors could find, reuse and repair. Kameez shirts were flagged as having a huge range of variants, so the same garment name can look very different on two survivors.
Practical read: the light end of this pool is what you wear crossing open ground, and the tradeoff against a heavier jacket is deliberate. Plan your travel outfit around the heat and your stash runs around the slots — the heat details are covered in the heat and heatstroke guide, and dust events in the sandstorm guide.
Uniforms: police, OBR and FNO night desert camo
The Week 70 dev blog moved from civilian clothing to regional uniforms, and these are the pieces most players mean when they ask about "Badlands gear".
| Uniform | Confirmed details | Role |
|---|---|---|
| Short-sleeved police uniform | Lightweight silhouette, shoulder epaulets, chest pockets, classic collared cut, a fictional Nasdara police patch | Readable as police gear at a glance; regional authority look |
| OBR uniform | Standard field-uniform feel, roll-up sleeves, epaulets, flap pockets | Everyday military field wear for the region |
| FNO jacket | Longer field-jacket silhouette, hood, fishtail back extension, drawcords, night desert camouflage pattern | Specialized night-side piece — the community-favorite candidate |
Bohemia frames the OBR and FNO as covering two different roles: standard field wear versus the specialized night-side jacket. The studio teased the community nickname itself, saying it cannot wait to hear the stories of the "Ghost of Nasdara", a lone sniper hiding in the darkness. Against the greener woodland gear of Chernarus and Livonia, these uniforms run beige, olive, faded blue and night-desert tones with dry dust, faded fabric and sun-exposed wear.

The same regional treatment extends to the infected: police, military and civilian infected wear the local garments, and the art direction says every torn uniform tells you where they worked. If you want the full breakdown of those variants, the infected variants guide covers them separately.
Gear already in the game before Badlands launches
Part of the wardrobe is not a Badlands exclusive at all — it arrived in DayZ 1.29, the Road to Badlands stable update that went live across all platforms on July 15, 2026, and it carries over to Nasdara at launch.
| Piece | Status | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Tanker helmets | In game since 1.29 | Listed in the official Road to Badlands item rundown |
| Military caps | In game since 1.29 | Head slot alternative to helmets |
| Desert camo plate carrier vest | In game since 1.29 | Desert variant of an existing armour piece |
| Desert camo combat backpack | In game since 1.29 | Matches the desert palette of the new map |
| Brass knuckles (plus the engraved "Friendly" variant) | In game since 1.29 | The "Friendly" variant was made with AWE me / Man at Arms: Reforged |
The same update reworked the central economy: vests and helmets were made rarer to reflect a slower, more resource-focused loop, and NBC items started spawning outside medical centres, fire stations and high-tier military areas. That change matters for this page because it means armour and protective clothing is no longer concentrated where you used to look for it — see the NBC gear and gas masks guide for what the contamination kit actually covers, and the military bases and bunkers loot guide for where the heavier loot sits.

The insulation versus inventory tradeoff
The Recap 2 dev blog put the rule in one sentence: "Generally, heavier clothing with better insulation tends to have more inventory space, while lighter clothing tends to have less. Nasdara's demand for lighter clothing will force you to make conscious decisions when managing your inventory."
That is the real cost of dressing for the heat. A heavy jacket keeps more loot and resists the cold desert night, but it is the wrong answer under direct sun at midday. Week 67 made the same point: a heavier jacket or military piece might still earn its place for storage, while breathable layers, head coverings, face wraps and protective eyewear make far more sense travelling through heat, dust and open terrain.

Two smaller confirmations that touch the item pool: the 1.30 update redoes more than 150 item icons alongside its animation work, so loot identification is getting a visual pass at the same time, and 1.30 ships together with Badlands on October 15, 2026. Details are in the Update 1.30 patch notes page.
As of the Badlands pre-launch (October 2026), Bohemia has not published spawn locations, spawn chance, slot counts, insulation values, damage numbers or a complete item manifest for Nasdara. Anything you see elsewhere claiming exact loot tables for the new clothing is guesswork until the map goes live at launch on October 15, 2026. Regional melee weapons — Shamshir, Jambiya, Akinaka, Police Baton, Döner Knife — are confirmed as a group and covered on the weapons list page.
FAQ
Does a face wrap or shemagh block damage in DayZ Badlands? Bohemia has confirmed these pieces become functional and essential on Nasdara, tied to keeping your eyes clear and your airways protected in dust. Damage values and protection stats have not been published as of the Badlands pre-launch (October 2026), so treat any specific number you read as unconfirmed until the map is out.
What is the FNO night desert camo? A specialized field jacket with a hood, fishtail back extension, drawcords and a night desert camouflage pattern. The studio itself expects it to become a community favorite and references the "Ghost of Nasdara", a lone sniper hiding in the darkness.
Are tanker helmets new items? They are not a launch-day addition. Tanker helmets, military caps, desert-camo plate carrier and combat backpack variants all shipped in the 1.29 Road to Badlands stable update on July 15, 2026, and they carry over into Nasdara.
Do lighter desert clothes mean less inventory space? Officially, yes: heavier clothing with better insulation tends to have more inventory space, and lighter clothing tends to have less. On Nasdara the demand for lighter clothing forces that tradeoff every time you leave shade.
Where do the new uniforms spawn? Unknown before release. Loot placement for the police, OBR and FNO pieces has not been announced; it is tied to the launch build on October 15, 2026.
